A nurse weights newly born Nadezhda, who weighs 17 pounds, 1 ounce, in Barnaul, a city in the Siberian region of Altai. Tatiana Khalina, 42, delivered the girl, weighing 17 pounds, 1 ounce, by Caesarean section Sept. 17 at a small maternity clinic in southern Siberia. Nurse Svetlana Gildeyeva also said the Sept. 17 birth went smoothly, and mother and the child were fine. She said the baby, Nadezhda, was transferred from the small clinic to a maternity hospital in Barnaul, a larger city. However there are said to be serious health concerns for baby Nadia. Nadezhda is mother Tatiana Khalina’s TWELTH child – adding to a brood of eight sisters and three brothers, all of whom weighed more than 11 pounds at birth.
